News From The Township:
Due to forecasted extreme cold weather for Sunday evening, Township staff, in consideration of the safety of our residents and performers have cancelled the outside portion of our New Year’s Eve celebrations, moving many of our activities and events indoors from 7 to 11 p.m.
“Safety of our residents, volunteers and performers of First Night is our main priority” said Brian Detzler, acting CAO. “With the extreme cold weather forecasted, equipment for the pyrotechnic show becomes unreliable as well as the amps, lights and speakers needed for our outdoor stage. At this time we want to ensure we host a safe and warm event for our resident’s. By bringing the events indoor we can guarantee all will have a wonderful time celebrating New Year’s Eve”.
The Gorge Cinema
Will showcase special free screenings of “Helicopter Canada” featuring local footage and artists from 7-11 p.m.
Elora Information Centre
Will host free children’s activities and hot apple cider from 7-11 p.m.
The Elora Royal Canadian Legion
The Elora Legion will offer their club room as a warming station, with free hot chocolate served by First Fergus Scouts. Our outside performers will be moved inside so that residents can still enjoy the amazing sounds of Poverty’s Arse with guest fiddler Aaron Soloman as well as Musical Duo Foghorn Saxhorn from 7-11 p.m.
Live outside of Elora? CW Hydro is graciously sponsoring a shuttle bus that will depart every 30 minutes from the Fergus Library to the Elora Information Centre from 6:45 p.m. to 11:45 p.m. to ensure you and your family can take part in all of the amazing activities happening in downtown Elora.
