We received a media release for the upcoming season for Elora Community Theatre – a 100% volunteer group (non-profit).
The adventures of Tom Sawyer (Nov 2012)
The adventures of Tom Sawyer kick off our 40th season of bringing entertaining theatre to our community. And what better way to celebrate than with those lovable but mischievous rascals, Tom and Huck, as they bring to you the beloved Mark Twain family classic adapted by Ric Averill. Let this talented cast and crew, complete with our own local musicians, bring back memories for you or introduce that memorable old tale about growing up to someone in your life. Either way, it’s a winner with award-winning director Deb Stanson, who many will remember from past ECT shows: Anne of Green Gables, Anne of Avonlea and The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.
A Dying Family Tradition (Jan 2013)
Our second play of our 40th season, A Dying Family Tradition by Dianne Lococo, will be directed by veteran theatre director, Robin Bennett. Robin has directed several of Dianne Lococo’s plays and their working relationship spans many years. He is already in rehearsal with a talented cast carefully selected for this ECT entry for the Western Ontario Drama League Festival. This adult comedy, A Dying Family Tradition, follows Cadence, who is all alone in the world after her mother’s funeral-but not for long! Deceased Mother, Agnes comes to back to bring surprises into her daughter’s life….only to be followed by her dead Father, Paxton…Then some lost relatives. Now what? Hilarious characters and a fresh, original script will have you sitting on the edge of your seat in laughter and anticipation.
Sitting Pretty (May 2013)
A well-known person in our community returns to ECT to direct Sitting Pretty. Mary Lloyd, who will be remembered from the much loved play Steel Magnolias that she directed a few years ago, is excited to be back with ECT with this adult comedy. Look for audition announcements for this play by Amy Rosenthal in the new year. Your heart will go out to central character, 50s something Nancy, who along with being lonely, introverted, out of work, overweight and feeling very much a loser has the perfect sister to make her feel even worse. But events are about to change. Come and see what happens when shy Nancy finds herself in the surprising, unthinkable situation of posing nude for an art class! Eloquence and with abound in this critically acclaimed comedy!
Season Tickets are presently going for a bargain price of $51 for all three shows. Senior subscription $45. Also reduced prices for students and groups. All performances at the Fergus Grand Theatre (787-1981). See www.fergusgrandtheatre.ca or www.eloracommunitytheatre.com , www.wellingtonarts.ca for more details.
